CAIRO - 13 February 2024: The Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Osama Rabie, engaged in a discussion with Peter Mollema, the ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Egypt, to explore opportunities for collaboration in the fields of training and green transformation.
Rabie expressed appreciation for the extensive cooperation between the SCA and the Dutch IHC shipyard, which aims to modernize the SCA's dredger fleet using cutting-edge technology.
Rabie stressed the Authority’s keenness to open new horizons for joint cooperation in various fields, especially those related to training and green transformation, in light of the Authority’s intention to declare the Suez Canal the Green Canal by 2030. He also highlighted the implementation of an ambitious business strategy that centers around enhancing the navigational services provided by the canal.
This strategy encompasses four key pillars: improving the navigational course of the canal, enhancing the maritime fleet, optimizing asset utilization, and embracing digital transformation.
During the discussion, Rabie also provided updates on the progress of the southern sector development project and the various initiatives aimed at enhancing the navigational safety of the canal, with a target of achieving a 28 percent increase in safety measures.
Mollema emphasized the strength of the strategic relations between the Netherlands and Egypt, acknowledging the pivotal role played by the Suez Canal as a vital link between Europe and Asia. He also underscored the canal's crucial role in supporting global trade.
