CAIRO - 12 October 2023: Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Dr. Mohamed Shaker, confirmed that the investment cost of integrating the expected capacities of new and renewable energy with a capacity of 126 thousand megawatts reaches $30 billion, stressing that the plan includes implementation at a voltage of 1000 kilowatts.

Shaker added that an international consultant from Belgium was contracted to conduct a comprehensive study of the cost of supporting and developing the electricity transmission network in Egypt, to accommodate the capabilities of renewable energy projects expected during the coming years to exploit them in the production of green hydrogen, and electrical connection projects.

Shaker explained that the study will be completed within the next few months, explaining that the study aims to determine the required supports for the electricity transmission network to accommodate about 126 thousand megawatts of renewable energy during the coming years.

Shaker said that there is a reference plan that aims to rely on renewable energies by 50% by 2040 of the total capacity of the national electricity grid, with a total capacity of 142 thousand megawatts.

With regard to the so-called green plan, the state aims to rely on renewable energies by 57% by 2040 with a capacity 159 thousand megawatts.
