The investment portfolio for comprehensive health insurance totals to LE 72 billion up until the end of May, Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait announced Tuesday.

The finance minister stated that the financial status of the health insurance investment is experiencing a rise, pointing towards the diversity of the financial portfolio and ability to implement the health insurance coverage system across Egypt.

The minister explained that more than 2.8 million citizens have benefited from the health insurance project across multiple governorates, including Port Said, Luxor, and Ismailia. He continued to explain that the medical services provided for the beneficiaries of the insurance are self-financing LE 5 billion, thus easing the financial burden on the citizens.

In the statement, the minister pointed to the significance of the private sector for the medical sector, explaining that there are 182 medical facilities, 50 of which are privately owned sectors.

Executive Director of the General Authority for Comprehensive Health Insurance and Assistant Minister for Economic Justice Mai Farid stated that the surgeries number experienced a major boost under the health insurance experiment, amounting to 363,000 operations, including bone marrow surgery and liver-kidney transplants.

Farid explained that the beneficiaries of the insurance don’t pay more than LE 300, and that institutions of the medical insurance provide more than 3,000 medical services in varying specializations such as tumor treatment, organ transplantation, prosthetics, and other medical care services that also include at-home services and traveling for treatment under special conditions.

Farid concluded her statement by noting that the inclusion of artificial intelligence in developing health services is at work, stressing that the comprehensive health insurance program aims to provide the best health care service to its providers.
