CAIRO – 2 September 2021: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi approved the East Mediterranean Gas Forum’s (EMGF) charter, the official Gazette published on Thursday.

The Cairo-based East Mediterranean Gas Forum, also known as EastMed Gas Forum, is an international organization that was established in 2019. The forum focuses on the establishment of a gas market in the region.

The EMGF seeks to enhance the use of gas resources among the countries of region while taking into consideration their right to utilize their own natural resources.

The forum will help its member states of Egypt, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Israel, Palestine and Jordan develop a sustainable regional gas market.

The forum was officially turned into a regional organization last year, as the seven countries met via video conference.

The energy ministers of all the member states met last March to attend a forum’s ministerial meeting. Since then, the EMGF's statute has come into force.

Next January, Cyprus will be the first founding member to assume the first forum’s presidency.
