CAIRO – 30 May 2020: The Military Information Division, affiliated with the Libyan Army, has announced the killing of the Turkish-backed Murad Abu Hamoud Al-Azizi, a Syrian mercenary squad leader, at the axis of the Airport Road in the capital, Tripoli.

Al-Azizi was the leader of the Sultan Murad Division, an armed rebel group in the Syrian Civil War, which is heavily supported by Turkey, who provides funding and military training along with artillery and aerial support.
The Libyan army had confirmed that it had managed to eliminate Syrian militias and mercenaries, who were sent by Turkey, including in the Electricity Triangle in Wadi Al-Rabi, the Tripoli International Airport's bridge, Al-Gas Street, and the Ramla Axis, south of Tripoli.
The army’s statement further affirmed that military units were able to take advantage of a number of mechanisms, and extended full control over the aforementioned areas, noting that clashes are still continuing in Alcazerma, after the militia groups tried on Friday morning to advance to the armed forces observatories.

The fighting between the Libyan army forces and the Al-Wefaq government militia escalated on Thursday in a number of axes south of the capital, Tripoli, as the Libyan army’s defenses managed to shoot down a Turkish suicide plane.

Al-Mismari also revealed that the number of Turkish military personnel in Libya is 1500, as well as other elements of security companies.
He said, “Turkey is now preparing to transport 2,500 other special operations forces and commandos to Libya.”
Al-Mesmari stated that “Turkey transferred approximately 17,000 of the young Syrian people who were deceived or from extremist groups to the Libyan lands.”
He explained that during the last week alone, 34 flights were conducted between Istanbul on the one hand, and Tripoli and Misrata on the other hand.
He also accused Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of transferring “terrorists and extremists” to Libya, urging the United Nations to incriminate him for his war crimes in the country and disrespect to the international law.
