CAIRO – 23 March 2019: In his speech at a press conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi on Saturday, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi called upon the international community to fight the phenomenon of terrorists’ moving from war-stricken states to neighboring countries in the Middle East.
Terrorism should be eradicated via using a comprehensive confrontation, including fighting those who supply terrorists with money and arms, the Egyptian President said.
Also, President Sisi offered Egypt’s condolences for the loss more than 100 Iraqi people, who were on board an overcrowded ferry that capsized in Tiger river on Thursday.
“Our common desire is to establish a new era of bilateral cooperation and coordination based on mutual interests […] at all levels to achieve the aspirations of both countries and peoples. Growth, prosperity and prosperity,” President Sisi added.
Both leaders discussed two countries’ plan concerning reconstruction of Iraq, particularly after wiping up the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group in some Iraqi cities, Sisi continued, noting Egypt will participate in Iraq reconstructing amid the presence of Egyptian businessmen in Iraqi market and Egypt’s latest national megaprojects.
President Sisi and Prime Minister Abdul-Mahdi reached a common view on regional issues and crises, particularly amid the upcoming Arab Summit due at the end of March in Tunisia.
Egypt is the first country visited by Abdul-Mahdi since he assumed the post on October 24. He said in his speech at the conference that his country faces terrorism, poverty, illiteracy, and unemployment. He praised President Sisi’s call of counter-terrorism.
Egypt-Iraq-Jordan Tripartite Summit
President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi announced that a tripartite summit between Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq will convene on Monday.
“It has been taken into consideration wide vision that enable the two countries to achieve future economic upsurges in cooperation with our [neighboring] Arabs. This matter will be on the table of discussion with Jordanian monarch King Abdullah II during our tripartite summit tomorrow, God willing,” President Sisi said.
On his official Facebook account, said Abdul-Madi that he had postponed his first trip to Egypt several times due to the domestic issues of his country, noting that his two-day visit to Egypt has great importance as Cairo will host the tripartite summit with President Sisi and Jordanian King Abdullah II.
