CAIRO – 8 September 2018: Reports have spoke of a Qatari scheme that is being plotted in Mauritania, as according to Qatari Leaks, a platform specialized in analyzing and disseminating materials exposing the strategy of Doha’s regime, said Qatar is retaliating against President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz when he severed ties with Qatar for supporting terrorism.

The website described Mauritania’s siding with the Anti-Terrorism Quartet against Qatar as a “slap”, “With an eye for evil sought to down him using terror and bet on Ikhwan in Nouakchott.”

On June 5, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain, as well as some Arab states including Mauritania, cut diplomatic ties with Qatar over supporting and funding terrorist groups, extremists and having relations with regional foe Iran.

The Mauritanian President called upon his country to rally support for his ruling Union for the Republic (UPR) party ahead of parliamentary, mayoral and regional elections that kicks off today.

Ould Abdel Aziz warned of the dangers of Islamism which, he said, has caused "the ruin and destruction of nations wealthier and stronger than Mauritania."

“These extremist parties are responsible for ruining Arab societies and Arab nations. We are hearing them here speaking in the name of Islam and Islam is our religion and not for them to exploit it in politics and collect money,” the Mauritanian President said on Aug. 30.

Ould Abdel Aziz dismissed the idea that there are moderates among Islamists.

Mohamed Ishaq Al-Kenti, aide to the secretary general of the Mauritanian government, exposed Doha as he said Qatar has been funding the Muslim Brotherhood in Nouakchott, according to Qatari Leaks.

He also affirmed that Qatar is supporting the “Tawasol” party of the Muslim Brotherhood in Mauritania as it hopes to create another Renaissance (Ennahda) Party, which got banned and outlawed in Egypt.
