General Manager, Hilton Marsa Alam Nubian Resort
By Noha Mohammed
Martin Rogers was appointed in January 2011 as General Manager Hilton Marsa Alam Nubian Resort. Born in England, Rogers hails from a military family, and served seven years in the UK armed forces before joining a manufacturing company and qualifying as an accountant. He has been married over 25 years and has two children and three grandchildren. What is your favorite vacation destination in Egypt and why?  One of my most favorite locations is Luxor. The historic sites in Luxor have to be some of the greatest experiences in the world. I have now visited on four occasions and I find something new every time. Luxor is a location that enables a visitor to experience Upper Egypt and enjoy the true culture and history. How do you like to spend your vacation?  Most of the time when I go on vacation it is time for me to escape from everything — I like to relax by the pool or on the beach. Egypt offers some of the most professional and friendly staff in the world, and there is nothing better than just relaxing in a hotel and enjoying this great service and quality. What is your favorite traditional Egyptian food, and where do you like to go for an enjoyable meal? At your hotel, what is your favorite meal?  Believe it or not, I am addicted to Om Ali. At any restaurant this would always be my first choice.  Even when family visits, I insist that they have this as their dessert. Now more than ever we need to promote tourism in Egypt. What efforts is your establishment making toward this goal? As an operator of the hotel, it is essential that we meet all our guests at every opportunity to openly discuss what has happened in Egypt and above all explain to them how safe the country is. Being from England has also given me an advantage, as it allows guests to speak to someone from another country, so that they can hear how safe you feel and that you are still traveling and welcome in the country. It is also essential that you stay active on social networks so that you can assist future guests with questions about your hotel and the safety of Egypt. If you could recommend just one thing an Egyptian should see or do in Egypt, what would it be? To travel and visit all the beautiful locations in their country. It is surprising how many Egyptians have not heard of or visited Abu Dabab Bay or even visited Luxor.
