The expectations weren't high when I was invited to a friend's birthday at La Maison Blanche.

I was ready for a night out with good company but knew nothing about the place except that it was located in Giza's First Mall. Being veiled, I’ve found there are more than just a handful of places that will deny me service either because they serve alcohol or because of the club vibe they're looking to establish so I didn't expect to be dazzled. But I was and I enjoyed some good food to boot, a combination that can be hard to find.
La Maison Blanche, which literally means The White House, is a mix of super extravagance, lively fun and comfort. The spacious restaurant-meets-bar-meets-club is captivatingly beautiful. As the name entails, the place is adorned with picturesque white high chairs and couches, a white marble floor and round crystal modern chandeliers emanating a futuristic surrounding.
The food, which the venue is quite known for, is some of the best in the city, albeit coming at a price. The beef tenderloin with mushroom sauce and fried basmati rice was perfectly cooked. The mushroom sauce was mouthwatering and the rice had that addictive quality. The salmon steak came in a generous portion and arrived perfectly pink with a sour cream sauce that cut the richness of the fish. As with most restaurants now, La Maison Blanche also offers some sushi options, although they are slightly overpriced. At 70 LE for seven portions, you won't get much bang for your buck. Overall, you can expect to pay at least LE 300 for a full meal without alcohol.
While the venue is primarily a restaurant, there is a dance floor and the resident DJ plays the latest hits, keeping the place lively and the dance floor buzzing. It is perfect for a large group of friends out on the town, but not so overtly club-like as to detract diners looking for an intimate evening.
La Maison Blanche definitely has something for everyone, whether you're looking for a romantic date night or a lively night out on the town. You can set your expectations high.
