CAIRO – 2 July 2017: Saudi Information Minister Awwad Saleh al-Awwad made sure to affirm Saudi Arabia’s stand against terrorism during the last days of his three-day visit to Germany.

During the visit, Awwad met with Vice Speaker of German Parliament Claudia Roth and officials at the national security apparatus.

Awwad told SPA on Saturday he found the Germans very understandable after providing them with all the information that proves Qatar’s involvement in backing terrorism.

Several Arab and Gulf states announced severing diplomatic ties with Qatar early June, over its support for terrorism, resulting in several economic, political and diplomatic measures that ended up isolating the small Gulf state.

The tiny emirate’s size, 11,571 km2, is almost the size of Hawaii (10,432 km2.) It has a population of 2.6 million, with only about 313,000 Qatari citizens.

Awwad stressed that Qatari television network Al-Jazeera was used as a media platform to promote violence and extremism.

He pointed out to documented media footages that Al-Jazeera broadcast to commend terrorists behind the 7/11 terror attack and portrays them as heroes when, in fact, they were murderers and criminals who shed blood and destroyed property and lives with no mercy.

The Saudi Minister added that Al-Jazeera adopted the Qatari regime’s scheme to spread extremism and violence to interfere in the internal affairs of some countries.

He said the satellite channel fabricated facts and alternated events to go along with the schemes the Qatari regime set against security and stability in the region.

“Qatar has long sought to mislead the public opinion to hide the crimes it has been committing for a long while,” Awwad said. “Qatar also used money to deceptively win cases, such as hosting the 2022 World Cup, but it will not be deceiving anyone any more after its true intentions are revealed.”

Awwad also stressed that Qatar should reconsider its stance and contribute to regional security, which means that Qatar must hand over terrorists residing in it and stop financing and supporting terrorism.

He pointed out that Qatar, in collaboration with Iran, worked to falsify facts and spread disinformation by playing the victim and disseminating false information provided by Iranian Minister Jawad Zarif.

The aim behind Awwad’s visit is to provide proofs and information that prove Qatar guilty of financing and supporting terrorism.

Awwad said German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel will be visiting the Saudi kingdom soon to affirm cooperation between Germany and Saudi Arabia.
