Sisi welcomes Armenia’s FM, affirms historical relations between Cairo, Yerevan

CAIRO – 14 September 2020: President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi meet, Monday with Arminian Minister of Foreign Affairs Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, as he stressed the historical and strong relations between Armenia and Egypt.

The meetening that was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Foreign affairs Sameh Shoukry, and the Armenian ambassador in Cairo, highlighted the cooperation and relation between the two countries according to official spokesperson for the Presidency Bassam Rady.

Sisi welcomed Mnatsakanyan, requesting transferring his greetings to the Armenian President

The two officials discussed number of issues and exchanged visions and views on regional political situations, including developments in Libya, Syria, Lebanon and the Palestine.

Mnatsakanyan and Shoukry held a joint press conference Sunday after their meeting.

During the conference, Shokry clarified that Egypt's intended military intervention in Libya would be aimed at maintaining the military status quo and inhibiting escalation so that Libyan factions focus on a peaceful solution that is purely national and not influenced by foreign powers.

The minister warned against the reliance on foreign parties in the conflict as that would fuel the crisis and intensify the people's suffering. He added that certain entities bring foreign mercenaries in the country and that they deal with terrorist organizations that target the innocent.
