CAIRO – 4 September 2020: In implementation of the outcomes of Egyptian-Jordanian-Iraqi summit that convened in Amman last week, the three countries will establish an electricity linkage and an oil pipeline to enhance the tripartite cooperation among the three parties.

In a statement issued by the Egyptian cabinet on Friday, Egyptian Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker praised a proposal of creating an electricity network that connects the three countries to each other.

“It has been proposed to implement it [the project] with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts, to support the exchange of electrical power and take advantage of the different peak times in these countries,” the statement quoted Shaker.

The proposal is one of other cooperative projects discussed during a meeting cabinet for the three countries in various fields; Egyptian Minister of Petroleum Tarek el Mulla reaved a new project aims at reacting a pipeline to transfer Iraqi crude oil to Egypt and Jordan.

The cabinet, which was attended by other ministers, tackled another number of projects in the fields of basic commodity supply, education, agricultural green houses and seed productions.

On August 25, 2020, the trilateral summit was held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, between President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan King Abdullah II, and Iraq's Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi.

“The summit focused on ways to enhance joint trilateral cooperation in various fields between the three countries, notably those pertinent to energy, electricity interconnection, infrastructure and food. It also tackled consultations and coordination on the latest political and security situations in the region and efforts to combat terrorism,” said Egyptian presidency in a statement.
