CAIRO – 30 April 2020: Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry at the 112-year old Cairo University tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19), the university’s spokesman said, adding that 17 contacts were traced and examined.

The administration of university located in Greater Cairo’s Giza governorate announced full closure of the affected department, which houses many administration offices and some clinics, for 14 days, Spokesman Mahmoud Alam El-Deen said.

The infection control committee tasked with the case has not determined the cause of the infection, he noted.

The whole building, including the dean’s office, the secretarial offices, clinics, bathrooms, stairs and the elevator were disinfected, Alam El-Deen said, adding that sterilization process will be carried out over two weeks.

All contacts were examined and isolated for 14 days, Azza Ezz El-Arab, the vice-dean of faculty said.

Khosht: Firm anti-coronavirus measures applied in Cairo University

CAIRO, April 7 (MENA) - President of Cairo University Mohamed Othman Al Khosht on Tuesday said that anti-coronavirus precautionary measures are applied firmly in the university. In a statement, he added that the measures are applied according to the standards of the Egyptian Health Ministry and the World Health Organization along with the university's plan on fighting coronavirus.



In March, two officials of Egypt's Armed forces were announced to be among Egypt’s death toll due to coronavirus.

Both of Major General Shafie Abdel Halim Dawood and Major General Khaled Shaltout were announced to be infected with the emerging virus during their participation in the precautionary measures to combat the virus.

Last week, Deputy director of al-Nagila Hospital in Marsa Matrouh governorate said he tested positive for coronavirus and has been quarantined in the hospital during the earlier week.

In a Facebook page, Mohamed Allam said that his health condition is now more stable and that he expects to turn into negative after retesting again soon for the virus, which will allow him to go home.

“This is something expected to happen to every doctor working in front lines for COVID-19, I’ve been diagnosed from 4-6 days ago and not feeling sad or angry; however, I’m feeling much better,” Allam stated.

Egypt records 226 new coronavirus cases, 21 deaths

CAIRO - 29 April 2020: 226 people in Egypt tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) recently and 21 people died, the Health Ministry said on Wednesday, shortly after it noted that 25% of the announced fatalities died before reaching quarantine hospitals as they arrived at hospitals too late.
