Egypt’s Sisi reviews armed forces' efforts to confront COVID-19 with Defense Min.

CAIRO - 14 April 2020: Egypt’s President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi meet Tuesday with Minister of Defense Mohamed Ahmed Zaki and Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Mohammed Farid Hegazy; they discussed the latest updates concerning confronting the spread of coronavirus pandemic.

According to presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady, the meeting was also attended by leaders of the main branches of the Armed Forces, and the director of the Military Intelligence Department.

The officials highlighted the efforts exerted by the Armed Forces in cooperation with the state’s institutes to implement all the necessary precautionary measures to confront COVID-19.

Rady explained that the meeting also reviewed a number of issues concerning the Armed Forces activities on all levels and discussed the strategic axes to protect the national security and the state’s gains.

In a statement published by the Egyptian Armed Forces, Monday, it was announced that the Armed Forces carried out the fourth sterilization round in Cairo as they sanitized during the partial curfew hours the bus stations of Aboud and Mazalat as well as the side streets and bridges in the area experiencing intensive passengers flow daily.

"The forces also sterilized a number of buses operated by the Public Transportation Agency," the spokesperson of the Egyptian Armed Forces announced.

Earlier this week, the Egyptian Armed Forces carried out the third sterilization round during the partial curfew hours in Cairo and Alexandria.

The round included Abbaseya Square, surrounding streets, Nour Mosque, Misr Tower for Tourism, State Council Courts Complex, North Cairo Court, the buildings of the Ministry of Electricity, the Public Services Agency and other facilities as well as Abbaseya and Almaza bus stations.

Elements of the Chemical War Branch sterilized in Alexandria Al-Hadra Wholesale Market for Fruits and Vegetables, railway stations, Al-Agamy Specialized Hospital, and the buildings of a number of public establishments, main streets, and squares.
"Earlier this month, the Egyptian Armed Forces sterilized Ramses Square, Ramses Railway Station, Al-Fath Mosque and its surroundings, and Al-Turgman bus station," the spokesperson previously announced.

That is in addition to sterilizing Ramses, Ahmed Helmy, Claude Bey, Sabteya, Fagala, and Al- Gomhoureya streets. Sterilization works included buildings' fronts and sidewalks.
In March, the Egyptian Armed Forces sterilized sites and streets that are subject to visitor density in Downtown and Old Cairo as they constitute large markets of garments, textiles, and houseware products.

For the Downtown neighborhood, the Egyptian Armed Forces sterilized Al-Ataba Square, Al-Ataba Market, the Post Office Authority’s headquarters, Opera Square, Opera Garage, Abdel Aziz Street, El Geish Street, and side streets.

A partial curfew in Egypt began on March 25 to last until April 23 as a protective measure against the spread of coronavirus among a bundle of rules that include decreasing the working hours of stores and shopping malls, and the closure of restaurants and cafes. The Egyptian Armed Forces sterilized Al-Azhar Street, Al-Hussein Square, and the area surrounding Al-Hussein Mosque.
