CAIRO – 29 January 2020: Minister of Health Hala Zayed met with Deputy Chief of the diplomatic mission of the Chinese Embassy in Cairo to discuss and enhance ways of bilateral cooperation to combat the novel coronavirus (ncov-2019).

The meeting was attended by a delegation from the Chinese Embassy in Cairo, Head of Precautionary Medicine Sector Alaa Eid and Head of the Egyptian Ambulance Authority Mohamed Gad.

The discussions tackled the latest developments in China regarding coronavirus, in addition to a precautionary plan set by Egypt’s Ministry of Health to prevent the virus from entering the country.

Both sides also discussed the health conditions of the Egyptian community in China, and the Chinese community living in Egypt.

For her part, Minister Zayed thanked the Chinese president for his decision to ban flights to and from China, and thanked the Chinese authorities for the precautionary measures launched for Egyptians living in China.

The Chinese procedures include preventing any Chinese resident of affected areas from traveling outside these areas before spending two weeks (the incubation period) at home, until they are proven to have no coronavirus symptoms.

The Chinese delegation praised Egypt’s efforts in dealing with the disease, stressing that Egypt is among the first countries to adopt high precautionary measures after the World Health Organization’s warnings.

The Ministry of Health has allocated the hotline 105 for citizens to inquire about all epidemiological and infectious diseases.
