CAIRO - 16 June 2017: Egypt’s government and al-Azhar institution strongly condemned the terrorist attack that killed 19 in Mogadishu, Somalia on Thursday.

The Foreign Ministry said in its statement that it backs the Somali government against terrorism ‘which targets the countries’ security and stability’.

“We offer our condolences to the people and government of Somalia, wishing all the victims families strength and patience “the statement stated.

In a statement on Thursday, Al-Azhar voiced its rejection to the shedding of innocent blood, adding terrorist acts reflect that those terrorists lack all meanings of humanity.
The Sunni institution called for united international efforts to confront terrorism that threatens the world and targets innocent people everywhere.

“Al-Azhar condemns the terrorist attack, and expresses its sincere condolences to the Somali government and people and to the families of the victims. We wish them mercy and speedy recovery.” the statement read.

A suicide bomber drove a car and rammed into the Posh Hotel, south of Mogadishu, while other gunmen attacked an adjacent hotel, Pizza House, where they took 20 people hostages in Wednesday evening, Reuters reported.
