CAIRO - 2 June 2019: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi's initiative for early detection of hearing impairment benefits 300,000 children annually, according to an official source at the Ministry of Health.

The source said the initiative will include detection of the disease and provision of treatment, regardless of hearing aids or cochlear implants.

In May, President Sisi directed the early detection of hearing loss by conducting hearing screening routine for newborns to facilitate future follow-up and treatment of children, according to a statement issued by presidential spokesperson Bassam Radi.

This came during his meeting with Minister of Health Hala Zayed and Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat.

Sisi also ordered intensifying efforts aimed to transfer Egypt's health and medical expertise to other African countries.
