CAIRO - 4 May 2019: Phone talks between President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte on Friday mulled the latest developments in Libya, presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement.

The talks stressed the need to eliminate all forms of terrorism, militias and armed groups in Libya, as well as the need to address the repeated foreign interventions and prevent the smuggling of arms and foreign fighters into the country, the spokesman added.

They also affirmed support for the unity of the Libyan military to restore legitimacy, stability and security in the country.

Earlier in the day, Sisi received a phone call from the Italian premier on means of fostering bilateral relations, as well as the latest regional development, including the Libyan file.

The leaders asserted the importance of supporting efforts meant to reach a political solution to the Libyan crisis, support Libya's national institutions and respect the people's will.
