CAIRO – 6 June 2017: A gang in Nigeria released on Sunday morning the Egyptian citizen, Romany Nadi Girgis, who was kidnapped on May 9, said Egypt’s ambassador to Nigeria, Assem Hanafi in a Monday statement.

The ambassador added that after the Embassy received the news about the kidnapping of an Egyptian citizen, he coordinated with senior Nigerian officials to secure Girgis and ensure his safety.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its appreciation for the cooperation of the Nigerian authorities and called on Egyptian citizens to be cautious when travelling to other states.

On May 20 this year, pirates kidnapped two Egyptian sailors from the top of an Egyptian oil tanker at gunpoint while it was at Nigeria’s coast.
