CAIRO - 5 October 2018: Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe invited President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi to attend the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 7) due to be held in Japanese city of Yokohama on August 28-30, 2019, according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Friday.

“It will be a great honor for us if President Sisi, the next president of the African Union, can attend TICAD 7 summit,” the statement quoted Abe during his meeting with the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry in Tokyo.

Shoukry paid Tokyo a two-day visit to participate in the TICAD Ministerial Meeting, the statement added.

Th TICAD 7 summit is a platform shared between Japan and African countries to boost the mutual benefits in fields of agriculture, industry, economy, and health, etc.

“The Government of Japan will strongly support African development based on initiatives promoted by both the public and private sectors while capturing growth in Africa, the 21st Century’s greatest frontier, through the TICAD process,” the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on July 27.

The Japanese-Egyptian relations were enhanced recently following President Sisi’s visit to Tokyo in February 2016. Also, Japanese Prime Minister paid Egypt an official visit in January 2015.
