CAIRO – 26 May 2017: The Mostakbal Watan (A Nation's Future) political party chaired by Eng. Ashraf Rashad, in a Friday statement condemned the attack against a bus carrying more than 50 Christians in Minya, Upper Egypt.

State media outlets announced 28 dead and at least 25 injured.

An armed group carrying machine guns intercepted the bus with three pickup trucks and opened fire at the worshippers who were headed towards the Saint Samuel Monastery, located outside Minya city.

The party called upon the Egyptian government to set clear measures for the fight against terrorism and extremism.

The statement further stressed that the aim behind these attacks is to undermine and break the state’s security, stability and unity, pointing out that these attacks would further hinder tourism and investments in Egypt.

The party also declared its full support and solidarity with the Egyptian police in its combat against terrorism. It demanded police forces to exert the utmost efforts possible to identify the attackers and bring them to justice as soon as possible.

The statement concluded by offering their deepest condolences to the families of the victims.
