CAIRO – 10 May 2017: President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi inaugurated, Wednesday, through a video conference, the first line of gas production of the West Nile Delta (WND) gas project in North Alexandria fields and the West Mediterranean’s deep water.

Minister of Petroleum Tarek el-Molla presented the project in detail, explaining, that the WND project was halted since January 25 revolution.

Twelve new projects are under construction, worth of $33 billion, allocated to boost the production of natural gas, which should add around 6 billion cubic feet to the total production by the end of 2019 el-Molla earlier mentioned in a statement.

El-Molla previewed the top challenges leading to the delay of the commencement of gas production. As a result, Egypt lost around 25 percent of the total natural gas production, resulting in a huge gas supply deficit, unstable electric current and repetitive power cuts.
