CAIRO - 10 April 2018: Speaker of the Iraqi parliament Salim al-Jabouri said that he discussed with President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi strengthening the political and economic relations between the two countries.

He added in an interview on Monday with ON Live that Iraq and Egypt effectively cooperate in the anti-terrorism operations, stressing that the Islamic State terrorist group has no longer any presence in Iraq after the recent comprehensive military operation.

Jabouri asserted on the need to fight radical thoughts that ignite internal conflicts and extremist orientations, noting that many Arab countries have coordinated since 2016 to rebuild Iraq and its institutions.

Jabouri expressed his country’s appreciation to Egypt's support for Iraq during its war against terrorism. He added that Egypt received many Iraqis during the anti-terrorism campaign, stressing that Iraqis consider Egypt as their second home, saying: "The Iraqis did not find any shelter but Egypt."

Jabouri added that his visit to Egypt aims to boost bilateral ties and develop a strategic vision based on supporting mutual interests.
