CAIRO - 6 December 2017: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry lauded the strong relations binding Egypt and Côte d'Ivoire.

This came during Shoukry's meeting with his Ivorian counterpart Marcel Amon-Tanoh where the two ministers witnessed the inking ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a mechanism for promoting political consultation and coordination between both countries.

During the get-together, the two sides tackled means of bolstering bilateral ties as well as regional issues of common interest especially the Renaissance Dam negotiations' file.

Shoukry welcomed the participation of the Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara in the investment forum to be held in Sharm el Sheikh during Dec 7-9.

The event aims at maximizing the benefit from the mega investment opportunities offered by the African countries rich with natural and human resources.

Shoukry welcomed his Ivorian counterpart in Egypt, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

The Egyptian foreign minister congratulated his Ivorian counterpart on electing his country as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) starting January 2018.

Amon-Tanoh voiced the keenness of his country to benefit from the experience Egypt has gained during its membership in the UNSC.

The Egyptian top diplomat expressed Egypt's confidence that Côte d'Ivoire will represent the African continent and its interest at the best way.

Shoukry said that Egypt is keen on coordinating with the African country pertaining to the council's agenda issues.

Amon-Tanoh offered the condolences of his country to Egypt over the victims of Rawda Mosque terrorist attack and suggested promoting joint cooperation in the field of fighting terrorism.
