CAIRO - 20 November 2017: Egypt and Cyprus have agreed on a mechanism to hold annual bilateral governmental meetings to follow up on cooperation status in different fields, said Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades Monday.

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi is visiting Nicosia for the first time on Monday, where he met with his Cypriot counterpart and discussed bilateral cooperation.

In a joint press conference between both leaders, Anastasiades welcomed his “friend” Sisi for his “historic” visit, highlighting deep relations between both countries in different sectors, especially the energy one.

Anastasiades said that Egypt-Cyprus relations are “developing well,” adding that Egypt is an important and strategic partner for the European Union in the fields of security, counter-terrorism, immigration and energy.

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and his Cypriot counterpart Nicos Anastasiades exchanged highest state Medals of Honor in both countries and witnessed the signing of a number of cooperation agreements during the Egyptian president’s first official visit to Nicosia Monday.

Foreign ministers of both countries signed a number of agreements in different fields, including Memoranda of Understanding in health affairs, security issues and communications.
