FM, Greek PM discuss bilateral relations, cooperation with Cyprus

CAIRO - 31 October 2017: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry asserted that Egypt attaches great importance to boosting relations with Greece.

The foreign minister made the remarks during his meeting Tuesday with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on the sidelines of a conference on multiculturalism, religious pluralism and peaceful coexistence, currently held in Athens.

The two sides discussed mechanisms for Cairo-Athens cooperation as well as the trilateral cooperation among Egypt, Greece and Cyprus, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said in a statement.

The Greek premier extended condolences to Shoukry over the victims of Wahat terrorist incident, asserting his country’s full solidarity with Cairo in its war against terrorism.

Meanwhile, Shoukry posted Tsipras on the latest developments in the Arab region and Egypt’s assessment of the situation in Syria, Libya, Yemen and Iraq as well as the efforts Cairo exerts to achieve Palestinian reconciliation.

On that score, Tsipras lauded the Egyptian mediation in the Palestinian issue, stressing that Greece is keen to boost cooperation and consultation with Egypt in all fields to achieve security, stability and development in the Middle East.
