CAIRO – 30 September 2017: Saudi authorities arrested a man who threatened to attack women who will drive cars at the heels of the issuance of a royal decree allowing women to drive, the Interior Ministry announced on Friday.

Earlier this week, a video was spread on social media showing a man donning the traditional Saudi white thobe saying, “I swear to God that I’m going to burn down any car found to be driven by a woman.”

A few days ago, Saudi women were finally given permission to get behind the wheel. Meanwhile, some view this as a reversal of the kingdom’s long-preserved policies by prominent clerics.
