Egypt condemns Barcelona van attack

CAIRO - 17 August 2017: Egypt condemns in the strongest possible terms the attack that hit Barcelona's famous Las Ramblas tourist area and claimed lives of a number of innocent people.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry offered condolences to the families of the victims of the attack that happened when a van ploughed into crowds in Barcelona killing up to 13 people.

The ministry asserted Egypt’s solidarity with the Spanish government and people against terror groups that try to destabilize and terrorize a number of countries around the world.

The ministry urged the international community to take serious and prompt steps to confront terrorism and drain the sources of its funding.
