Hurgada attacker referred to psychiatric hospital for 45 days

CAIRO – 7 August 2017: The alleged perpetrator of the Hurgada attack in which three tourists were killed on July 14, was referred to Abbasiya Psychiatric Hospital for 45 days by the state’s Supreme Prosecution to ensure his mental strength integrity.

According to a statement issued by the prosecution on Monday, the alleged perpetrator, Abdelrahaman Shams al Dien, 28, has been investigated during the past period since his arrest in order to get the full details of the attack.

On Friday, July 14, Shams al Dien swam from a neighboring beach and infiltrated the beach where six female tourists from different nationalities were staying before stabbing them, according to a statement from the Ministry of Interior.

The injured tourists were transported to a hospital, while the attacker was arrested. Two German tourists and another Czech were announced dead.
