ALEXANDRIA - 1 August 2017: Alexandria court of misdemeanors slapped former director Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) Ismail Serageldin with three-and-a-half year in jail over charges of embezzling LE 20 million.

A number of the library workers filed reports against Sergeldin over siphoning off public funds.

Serageldin is accused of renting facilities affiliated to the library at low price, hiring advisers with tens of thousands of pounds and travelling on private tours at the library's expense.

Meanwhile, the court also sentenced the library's financial sector director to one-and-a half-year-imprisonment term over tinkering with the collective insurance document of the library's workers and the rent of the library's affiliated facilities.

Two other employees were sentenced two six months in jail in the renting corruption case
