Cairo LRT expansion project continues, with Phase 4 reaching 5 stations

CAIRO – 6 July 2026: The Ministry of Transport achieved a major milestone with the completion of Phases 1 and 2 of the Cairo Light Rail Transit (LRT) project. The operational line connects Adly Mansour Station in El-Salam City to the New Administrative Capital via 10th of Ramadan City. The LRT network currently extends 70 km and includes 12 stations.

Expansion work is continuing to extend the network and serve a wider area. Two additional stations, Nativity Cathedral and Strategic Command, have opened as part of Phase 3, which spans 20.4 km and includes four stations. Work is ongoing on the remaining stations.

Construction is also underway on Phase 4, which will extend the network by 15.13 km and add five stations, bringing the total network length to 105.5 km.

Meanwhile, the ministry is conducting studies for Phase 5, which will add a further 7.8 km and one station, extending the LRT to the industrial zone in the New Administrative Capital.
