CAIRO - 30 June 2026: More shelters for stray dogs are being announced across Cairo governorate, as part of the governorate's plan to find scientific and humane solutions to the problem of stray dogs in the governorate.

In April, Governor of Cairo Dr. Ibrahim Saber, conducted an inspection tour to monitor the ongoing construction work at the stray dog shelter project; a 5,000 square meter plot east of the Autostrad Road in Tebin.

On Tuesday, head of Shorouk City Authority announced that a plot of land has been allocated for the construction of a comprehensive shelter for stray dogs in Shorouk City. He commented that this news many citizens have been awaiting.

"This will be done in cooperation and coordination with the City's Board of Trustees, which will undertake the project at its own expense," he added.

He said, “An agreement has also been reached to prepare a cooperation protocol with Badr University to carry out sterilization and vaccination of stray dogs. In addition, a protocol will be signed with an animal welfare organization to begin sterilization and vaccination immediately until the shelter is completed.”

He concluded, “I assure the residents of Shorouk City that this issue has been a top priority for us recently. In response to the residents' demands and to protect our children, the decision was made and implementation procedures began immediately, based on our belief in every citizen's right to live in a safe and civilized city, while applying scientific, humane, and sustainable solutions to address the stray dog problem.”

These shelters aim to provide a safe haven for stray dogs, ensuring public safety without compromising animal welfare.
