CAIRO – 12 June 2026: Eight people were killed on Friday when a private car collided with a train operating between El-Ganayen and El-Shaloufa stations in Egypt's Suez Governorate. The victims included five women, two children, and the driver of the car.

No injuries were reported among the train passengers; all fatalities were confined to the occupants of the private vehicle, Youm7 reported.

According to a statement by the Egyptian National Railways Authority, the private car attempted to cross the tracks at an unauthorized location just as Train 3994/108 (Suez/Ismailia) was passing. The resulting collision caused the vehicle to burst into flames, with the fire quickly spreading to the train's locomotive.

Civil Protection forces and ambulances rushed to the scene immediately following the crash. Emergency teams successfully contained the blaze, preventing it from spreading to the passenger carriages, while security forces cordoned off the area to allow crews to clear the debris.

The Railways Authority added that the damaged locomotive was detached from the rest of the train to fully extinguish and cool the engine. The wreckage of the car was subsequently removed from the tracks, preventing any major disruptions to train traffic. The bodies of the deceased were transported by ambulance to Suez General Hospital.

In its statement, the Egyptian National Railways Authority issued an urgent appeal to citizens, noting that despite continuous media awareness campaigns by the Ministry of Transport regarding the dangers of reckless behavior near railways, dangerous violations continue to occur. The Authority firmly emphasized the absolute necessity of crossing railway tracks only at official, designated level crossings to protect lives and public property.
