CAIRO – 4 June 2026: U.S. President Donald Trump said ongoing negotiations with Iran have made significant progress, emphasizing that the core of any potential agreement is ensuring that Tehran does not acquire a nuclear weapon.

Trump stated that one of the key provisions of the anticipated agreement is the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic, describing it as a fundamental step toward enhancing stability in the region.

He added that the United States will achieve its objectives regarding Iran, whether through negotiations or other means, expressing confidence that Washington will ultimately succeed.

Trump revealed that his administration had previously discussed the possibility of deploying special forces to seize Iranian nuclear materials. However, he said he rejected the option to avoid repeating scenarios faced by previous U.S. administrations.

Regarding the possibility of direct communication with the Iranian leadership, Trump said he is not currently seeking a meeting with Iran’s Supreme Leader. However, he did not rule out such a meeting if a final agreement is reached between the two sides.
