TOKYO – 4 June 2026: Egypt has invited Japanese businesses to tap investment opportunities in renewable energy, infrastructure, water desalination, electric vehicle manufacturing and other clean-energy-related industries.

The invitation was made by Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty during a meeting with members of the Egypt-Japan Business Council in Tokyo on Thursday.

Abdelatty underscored Egypt's strategy to localize industry and expand reliance on renewable energy sources, highlighting promising opportunities for Japanese investors in these priority sectors.

The minister also stressed the need to boost Japanese investment in Egypt to better reflect the strategic relationship between the two countries and the opportunities available in the Egyptian market.

He pointed to financing and support tools offered by Japanese financial institutions to encourage companies to expand their investments in Egypt.

Abdelatty reviewed measures taken by the Egyptian government to improve the investment climate and enhance the competitiveness of the economy as part of its economic reform program.

He also outlined efforts to support Japanese investors, including a dedicated follow-up mechanism for Japanese companies at the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones to help address any challenges they may face.

The minister highlighted Egypt's interest in strengthening economic cooperation with Japan, including plans for a Japanese industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

The zone would help increase the presence of Japanese companies and enable them to benefit from the incentives and competitive advantages offered by the zone, he added.

Abdelatty also expressed hope for continued cooperation with the Egypt-Japan Business Council to attract additional Japanese investment and deepen economic and trade ties between the two countries.

He called for holding an Egyptian-Japanese investment forum in Cairo with broad participation from the business communities of both countries to explore investment opportunities and strengthen bilateral economic partnerships.
