CAIRO - 4 May 2026: Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy stated Monday that the Grand Egyptian Museum represents a leading model in all matters related to environmental conservation and the use of clean energy, in line with the Egyptian state's strategy to promote sustainability.
This came during a press conference held Monday at the Grand Egyptian Museum to announce the inauguration of a solar power station at the museum.
The Minister of Tourism added that the Ministry has approximately six museums that rely on clean and renewable energy, noting that there is a plan to increase this number and develop the system to support sustainability efforts and environmental conservation.
The Minister of Tourism expressed his satisfaction with the existing cooperation between Egypt and Japan in this field, emphasizing that this partnership represents a successful model of international cooperation in supporting clean energy projects.
For his part, the Japanese Ambassador to Cairo Fumio Iwai expressed his delight at participating in the inauguration of the solar power plant at the Grand Egyptian Museum, congratulating Egypt on this significant achievement, which reflects its commitment to sustainable development.
The Japanese Ambassador added that there has been close cooperation between Egypt and Japan since the establishment of the Grand Egyptian Museum, noting that this cooperation extends to multiple fields, including renewable energy, which is witnessing a growing partnership between the two countries.
He explained that the Grand Egyptian Museum not only embodies Egypt's rich history but also serves as a platform to showcase modern efforts toward development and sustainability.
The Japanese Ambassador emphasized that this project sends a powerful message to the world about Egypt's commitment to achieving sustainable development and promoting reliance on clean energy sources.
