CAIRO - 2 May 2026: The Law on the Protection and Development of Lakes and Fisheries has established five prohibitions to protect water from pollution and obstacles to fishing, through the following regulations:

1- It is prohibited to dump or discharge toxic, radioactive, chemical, or petroleum materials, oils, ship waste, industrial or factory waste, or untreated sewage into lakes and territorial waters.

This prohibition also applies to any other materials that could harm aquatic resources, aquatic life, or fishing activities.

2- It is prohibited to dump or place solid objects or anything else that obstructs fishing operations in designated areas.

3- It is prohibited to plant reeds, rhizomatous plants, or other vegetation in fishing areas, or to fill in any part of them.

4- It is prohibited to introduce any foreign aquatic organisms, their eggs, or larvae into the country for any purpose whatsoever, except with a license from the relevant authority. The executive regulations will specify the controls, conditions, and procedures for issuing the license.

5 - It is prohibited to hunt, collect, transport or possess sea turtles and marine mammals from the sea or lakes, or other water bodies, or to tamper with their habitats and breeding grounds, as the case may be, along the Egyptian coasts or in the sea waters, except with a permit from the agency. The executive regulations shall specify the controls, conditions and procedures for granting the permit.
