Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayeb: Al-Azhar ready to train Omani Imams

CAIRO – 30 April 2026: Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb met with Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Rahbi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Cairo, at Al-Azhar headquarters on Thursday.

During the meeting, the Grand Imam affirmed the deep-rooted relations between Al-Azhar and the Sultanate of Oman, as well as Al-Azhar’s readiness to receive and train Omani imams at Al-Azhar International Academy for Training Imams and Preachers. 

He noted that the academy’s programs are based on a well-established curriculum developed by a scholarly body comprising senior Al-Azhar scholars and professors specializing in Islamic, Arabic, and applied sciences.

For his part, the Omani ambassador expressed his pleasure at meeting Sheikh of Al-Azhar and conveyed his country’s appreciation for the significant role played by the Grand Imam in presenting the true image of Islam and countering misconceptions. He affirmed that the Sultanate of Oman is keen to strengthen its ties with Al-Azhar, the leading religious and academic institution in the Islamic world, which attracts students from across the globe.
