CAIRO- 18 April 2026: Egypt has begun implementing a logistics zone in the city of Arish, covering an area of approximately 603 acres.

The government is advancing a comprehensive strategic plan to develop El Arish Port, the only Mediterranean port in North Sinai. The project aims to transform the port into a regional transportation and logistics hub, serving as a key gateway for trade between Europe and Asia.

The project forms part of a broader national strategy to position Egypt as a global transit trade center, while linking Sinai’s industrial and mining production areas to international markets.

Ongoing and planned development works involve dividing the port into two basins and multiple phases. The first and third phases have been completed and include the construction of a 1,250-meter main breakwater and a 250-meter secondary breakwater. Several marine berths have also been developed, including the Sinai Pier (250 meters), Tahya Misr Pier (915 meters), and a 1,000-meter tourist berth. In addition, 13 administrative and service buildings have been established, including facilities for customs, police, logistics operations, as well as laboratory and workshop areas.

The second phase, focused on the Eastern Basin, will involve constructing 1,908 meters of new berths and extending existing breakwaters to enhance port protection and operational capacity.

The zone is designed to feature advanced storage, loading, and unloading yards, alongside large-scale refrigerated and frozen storage facilities to support transit trade. It is expected to play a vital role in the Arish–Taba logistics corridor, generate direct employment opportunities for residents of Sinai, and further integrate the peninsula’s economy into the national framework.

The project also includes the construction of four advanced silos for storing, with a total capacity of 40,000 tons. This will enhance the port’s ability to export key Sinai products such as marble, salt, sand, and cement.

To ensure full logistical integration, a 12-kilometer railway link is being developed to connect the port to Egypt’s national railway network via the Bir al-Abd–Arish–Taba line. This connection will link the port to Red Sea and Gulf of Aqaba ports, significantly reducing the cost and transit time for goods movement.
