Saudi Arabia honors 2 Egyptian scholars with 2026 King Faisal Prize

CAIRO - 16 April 2026: Deputy Governor of Riyadh Region Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz bestowed on the 2026 King Faisal Prize on two Egyptian scholars.

 

This came in ceremony organized to honor winners of the 48th edition of the 2026 King Faisal Prize in Riyadh, under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

 

The King Faisal Prize for Service to Islam for 2026 was awarded jointly to Chairman of Al-Fawzan Holding Sheikh Abdul Latif bin Ahmed Al-Fawzan, in recognition of his adoption of a distinguished charitable approach focused on supporting high-quality initiatives linked to developmental needs and for establishing “Ajwad Endowment” as a community arm for developing humanitarian initiatives, and to Al-Azhar University professor Dr. Mohamed Mohamed Abu Mousa of Egypt, in recognition of authoring more than 30 books in the field of Arabic language, particularly rhetoric related to clarifying the miraculous nature of the Holy Quran.

 

He is also a founding member of the Council of Senior Scholars at Al-Azhar and has participated in numerous international scientific seminars and conferences, held more than 300 sessions at Al-Azhar Mosque explaining classical heritage books, and contributed to strengthening cultural identity among youth.

 

Meanwhile, the committee decided to award the 2026 King Faisal Prize in Islamic Studies, on the topic “Trade Routes in the Islamic World,” jointly to Professor at Fayoum University in Egypt Dr. Abdel Hamid Hussein Hamouda, in recognition of his comprehensive and analytically rigorous scholarly work covering land and maritime trade routes and their networks across regions including the Islamic East, Iraq, Persia, the Arabian Peninsula, the Levant, Egypt, and the Sahara, and to Professor at the Hashemite University in Jordan Dr. Mohammed Waheeb Hussein, whose work is distinguished by high scientific value and strong field authenticity. His research relied on direct archaeological surveys supported by precise geographic.
