Cairo University leads Egypt and Africa, enters global top 10% in SCImago 2026

CAIRO – 5 April 2026: Cairo University has been ranked the leading academic and research institution in both Egypt and Africa in the 2026 SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR), while also placing among the top 10% of institutions worldwide.

University President Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadek said Cairo University joined the top-tier (Q1) category globally among more than 10,000 universities and research centers, reflecting its growing competitiveness in scientific research and innovation.

The rankings confirm the university’s continued dominance at the national level, where it has held first place among Egyptian universities for three consecutive years from 2024 to 2026.

It also climbed to first place in Africa this year, up from second position in the previous two years, highlighting steady institutional progress and stronger regional standing.

Globally, Cairo University ranked 997th overall, supported by a strong performance in research, where it placed 538th worldwide in the research performance indicator, topping both the Egyptian and African rankings in this category.
