CAIRO – 24 March 2026: Ibrahim Saber, the Governor of Cairo, confirmed on Tuesday that all relevant agencies and district heads have been placed on high alert to manage potential rainfall expected in the coming hours.
In accordance with forecasts from the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA), Governor Saber stated that heavy-duty suction pumps, water jets, and modern motors have been strategically deployed to main roads, bridge entrances, exits, tunnels, and areas historically prone to water accumulation.
The primary objective of this deployment is to ensure the rapid removal of rainwater to maintain smooth traffic flow.
The Governor noted that constant communication is being maintained between the National Emergency and Safety Network Control Center and the Central Operations Room at the Governorate headquarters. This allows for a swift response to citizen reports or complaints, particularly regarding localized flooding.
The Governor added that the Central Operations Room has established open communication lines with the EMA to monitor weather patterns around the clock. This real-time data allows the Governorate to notify districts instantly, enabling proactive measures to prevent weather-related crises.
Furthermore, all district-level operations rooms are integrated with the central hub to ensure a unified response to any rainwater accumulation.
A comprehensive emergency plan is now in effect, involving the coordinated deployment of equipment and rapid-response teams across the capital’s streets. This initiative is a collaborative effort between district authorities, the Cairo Sanitation Company, the Cairo Water Company, the Cleaning Authority, the Civil Protection Authority, and the Utilities Police.
Governor Saber emphasized that ongoing coordination between the Cleaning and Sanitation Authority and district heads is vital to ensuring that all rainwater drainage systems have been thoroughly cleared and are fully operational.
