CAIRO, March 12, 2026: Egyptian cabinet ministers took part in a public discussion at the first cultural forum of Egypt’s National Front Party to reassure citizens that the government has buffers in place to deal with regional turbulence, from energy supply and food stocks to the availability of medical supplies.

The session, held under the title “Reading the war’s impact on the region: a strategic view,” brought together ministers, lawmakers and public figures to discuss the spillover from escalating tensions in the Middle East and their economic and security consequences.

Health minister: supplies in warehouses, monthly needs hit $300m

Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said the state treats healthcare as a top priority, pointing to a sharp rise in public spending on the sector. He said the health budget grew from EGP 42 billion in 2014 to EGP 406 billion in 2025.

He also gave a snapshot of the system’s recurring pressure points. Abdel Ghaffar said the ministry needs around $300 million a month, then added that stock levels are currently strong, with 55% of annual production inputs in Egyptian warehouses, and about 80% of inputs available to cover the next three to four months.

He said 1,255 projects were implemented nationwide at a cost of EGP 222 billion, describing them as part of ongoing efforts to improve services across governorates.

Petroleum minister: “pre-emptive steps” to secure gas and energy needs

Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi said the government has taken what he described as pre-emptive steps to ensure energy products remain available to cover domestic demand, stressing the need for continued investment to maintain balance in the sector.

He pointed to efforts to support the sector’s operating environment, including settling dues and strengthening infrastructure, and said the ministry has worked on securing regasification capacity to meet gas needs, alongside earlier preparations to expand household gas connections.

Badawi also emphasized a strategy built around partnerships with Egyptian and foreign players to attract investment and keep supply options diversified.

Supply minister: strategic stockpiles “completely safe,” bread price unchanged

Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk said his ministry’s main focus is the strategic reserve of basic commodities, describing it as “safe” in terms of coverage duration, sources, and financing.

Farouk said Egypt has diversified wheat sourcing beyond reliance on a narrow set of suppliers, and argued that the latest increase in petroleum product prices has not affected the subsidized bread price. He said the state absorbed the added cost, estimating it at EGP 1.6 billion above the planned level.

He also highlighted storage expansion plans, saying Egypt is aiming to reach a storage capacity of 6 million tons, alongside continued market monitoring.

Investment minister: keep reforms moving to protect investor expectations

Investment Minister Mohamed Farid said the government’s priority is to protect what he called the “legitimate expectations” of investors, arguing that stopping reforms would undermine confidence.

He said the state is focused on keeping its reform track steady, especially during periods of regional uncertainty, to avoid damaging the investment climate.

The forum comes at a time when regional escalation has fed volatility in global energy markets and added pressure across supply chains. In that context, the government’s public messaging has focused on readiness, stock buffers and continuity of services, aiming to reduce anxiety in the market and reassure households that basic needs, from fuel and food to healthcare supplies, are being managed.
