CAIRO - 8 March 2026: President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi attended an Iftar banquet at the Police Academy, where he emphasized the necessity of learning from the events of 2011 to ensure Egypt’s continued stability.
In a Sunday statement, presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy noted that the President praised the Ministry of Interior for its rapid recovery and comprehensive security overhaul over the last decade. El-Sisi described this transformation as part of a broader, gradual strategy to modernize state institutions without causing societal shocks.
The President highlighted the ministry's success in countering terrorism, which he attributed to overcoming misconceptions surrounding religious practice. He warned that "ignorance" remains the most dangerous challenge to any nation, and reiterated that the state serves all citizens equally.
During his visit, El-Sisi showcased the transition from the traditional prison system to modern rehabilitation centers. He explained that 48 old facilities have been replaced by seven high-level centers designed to function as educational institutions for offender reintegration. The President directed officials to organize public visits to these centers to increase transparency regarding their rehabilitation efforts.
Addressing regional concerns, the President warned that the ongoing conflict in the region could trigger a broader economic crisis if it persists, particularly regarding global energy prices. He called for an urgent resolution to the war to prevent further harm to regional states and their citizens.
El-Sisi urged national unity and "wisdom" in navigating current economic challenges, noting that Egypt has successfully weathered a series of difficult years. He concluded his address by mandating respectful police-citizen engagement and stressing that institutional development must remain a continuous process.
Following the event, the President joined senior officials and police cadets to perform the Isha and Taraweeh prayers at the academy.
