Egypt seeks to reduce unemployment rates
CAIRO - 20 February 2025: Despite the global challenges, Egypt has succeeded in confronting unemployment, which has declined from 13 percent in 2014 to 6.4 percent at present, said Abdel Wahab Khedr, the media advisor to the Ministry of Labor.
Khedr noted that the Regional Director for Arab States at the International Labor Organization, Dr. Ruba Jaradat, said that unemployment is one of the most important challenges facing the organization, as it ranges between 10 percent and 12 percent around the world.
The media advisor to the Ministry of Labor referred to the announcement of the Regional Director for Arab States, regarding the unemployment rate in Palestine alone exceeding 51 percent, and in Gaza alone exceeding 80 percent, due to the practices of the "occupation", and the International Organization previously confirmed - in a recent report - that the number of unemployed around the world has approached 110 million unemployed, due to the lack of development and global unrest.
Data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics showed that the unemployment rate in urban areas decreased to 8.9 percent of the total urban workforce, while it was 10.1 percent in the previous quarter, compared to 9.7 percent in the same quarter of the previous year. The labor force survey data for the fourth quarter (October-December) of 2024 indicated that the unemployment rate in rural areas reached 4.5 percent of the total rural workforce, while it was 4 percent in the previous quarter, compared to 4.8 percent in the same quarter of the previous year.
