CAIRO – 20 February 2025: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said a three-year timeframe is a reasonable estimate for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Gaza, aiming to restore it to a condition better than it was before the Israeli war.

Talking to reporters after the weekly Cabinet meeting, he assured that this estimate is based on practical realities observed on the ground and prior successful implementations.

Madbouly asserted that the capabilities of Egyptian, Arab, and international companies operating in the Middle East all possess the expertise necessary to carry out the reconstruction of Gaza within the proposed three-year period.

The prime minister stated that a comprehensive framework for the reconstruction of Gaza is currently being developed.

This initiative involves collaboration with several Egyptian universities and consulting firms, leveraging Egypt's extensive experience in engineering and technical capabilities honed through numerous development projects, he stressed.

Madbouly referenced his recent meeting with the Prime Minister of Palestine, Mohammed Mustafa, during which Egypt received several proposed technical and engineering studies from various international institutions, including the World Bank.

These studies outline the stages of the reconstruction process, Madbouly said, noting that these international and Egyptian studies will be integrated into a comprehensive plan that Egypt is preparing for the reconstruction of Gaza.

The agenda of the Arab leaders’ summit, scheduled for 4 March, encompasses a comprehensive vision for the reconstruction of Gaza during the coming period, the prime minister revealed.

Egypt has affirmed in many occasions tirelessly working to develop a reconstruction plan for Gaza following over 15 months of war that devastated the enclave and left most of the population homeless.

The UN estimates that rebuilding Gaza and the occupied West Bank will require more than $53 billion over the next ten years, including $20 billion over the coming three years alone.

Details of the reconstruction plan have not yet been revealed, but this Egyptian/Arab proposal seeks to replace a widely condemned initiative by US President Donald Trump, which aimed to "take over" Gaza and permanently displace its two million Palestinian residents to Egypt and Jordan.
