CAIRO – 19 February 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has invited Spain's King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia to attend the inauguration ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), scheduled for July.

During a speech at a luncheon hosted in his honor by the Spanish king and queen in Madrid on Wednesday, the president also invited them to visit Egypt at the earliest opportunity.

GEM is poised to become the world’s largest museum dedicated solely to one civilization, which is ancient Egypt.

Nestled close to the recently opened Sphinx International Airport and offering stunning views of the iconic Pyramids of Giza, GEM covers an expansive 500,000 square meters.

The museum's size is remarkable—double that of the Louvre and two and a half times that of the British Museum.

The GEM hosted a soft opening in November 2023, welcoming visitors to explore its beautiful gardens and cafes, the impressive hanging obelisk, and the main galleries.

President Sisi has embarked on an official visit to Spain, where he met with the Spanish king and Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to discuss regional developments, especially the Palestinian cause, and explore means to enhance bilateral relations.
