CAIRO – 19 February 2025: President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez signed Wednesday in Madrid an agreement to elevate relations to the strategic partnership level.
The two leaders also witnessed the signing of MoUs to bolster cooperation in various sectors, which was followed by holding a joint press conference.
Sanchez commented saying that the strategic partnership between Egypt and Spain would pave the way for boosting trade exchange, investments, and economic collaboration, pointing out that the business forum to be held later today would be a chance to explore opportunities.
The Spanish prime minister highlighted that Egypt had been one of the major countries receiving funding for development, precisely in the sectors of railways, water management, security and defense.
The head of government stressed that the visit of President Sisi to Spain was necessary in light of the tough and complicated circumstances endured by the Middle East, especially Gaza Strip.
Sanchez stated that evicting Palestinians out of Gaza would be an immoral act, and a contradiction to related UNSC resolutions. He also added that it would cause instability in the Middle East.
On his side, the Egyptian president expressed appreciation to Spain for its just, honorable, honest and brave stances, and that were manifested in recognizing the state of Palestine.
In the same context, President Sisi revealed that regional crises made up a major part of talks with Prime Minister Sanchez, calling upon the international community to support a plan on Gaza reconstruction without displacement of the Palestinians in addition to the establishment of the Palestinian state.
The president equally stressed the importance of the full implementation of the ceasefire deal, which consists of a hostage-prisoner swap deal and supply of sufficient quantities of humanitarian aid.
