CAIRO – 14 February 2025: Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli lauded the distinguished political relations between Egypt and Zambia, expressing hope to elevate economic ties to higher levels.

Madbouli made the remarks during his meeting on Friday with Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, on the sidelines of his participation in the 38th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Summit in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

During the meeting, the premier highlighted the upcoming visit of the Zambian leader to Egypt, as it will give a strong push to relations between the two countries.

The prime minister said Egypt looks forward to fostering cooperation with Zambia in various fields, pointing to the possibility of signing a number of joint memorandums of understanding (MoUs) between the two countries to enhance cooperation in the areas of agriculture, investment and fisheries.

Madbouli stated Hichilema's visit to Egypt will see the Egyptian-Zambian Business Forum being held, which reflects Cairo's interest in strengthening economic ties with Lusaka.

The forum will discuss how to boost bilateral cooperation in a number of priority sectors for the Zambian side, such as infrastructure, energy, renewable energy, agriculture and health.

Madbouli welcomed the existing coordination between the Arab Contractors and the Zambian Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development to carry out infrastructure projects in Zambia.

In this regard, the prime minister praised Egypt's major investments in the Zambian market, notably the investments of Elsewedy Electric company, which plays a key role in enhancing trade and investment cooperation between the two countries and providing job opportunities for Zambian workers.

On his part, the Zambian president voiced hope for cementing cooperation between Cairo and Lusaka, through increasing the investments of Egyptian energy companies working in the Zambian market.

Hichilema expressed appreciation of the existing cooperation between the two states in the fields of medicine, infrastructure, agriculture, water resources and irrigation, noting his visit to Egypt will contribute to setting a framework for collaboration between the two countries in the coming period
