CAIRO – 12 February 2025: Jordan has reiterated its “clear and steadfast” rejection of proposals for displacing the Palestinian people from their lands after US President Donald Trump doubled down on his proposal to take control of the Gaza Strip during a meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah II on Tuesday.

"This is the unified Arab position," the king said on Twitter after the meeting with Trump.

"Rebuilding Gaza without displacing the Palestinians and addressing the dire humanitarian situation should be the priority for all," the king added.

Trump on Tuesday reiterated his proposal for Egypt and Jordan to take in Palestinians after removing them from Gaza, a plan that both Arab countries repeatedly rejected.

“I believe we’ll have a parcel of land in Jordan. I believe we’ll have a parcel of land in Egypt,” Trump said.

“We may have someplace else, but I think when we finish our talks, we’ll have a place where they’re going to live very happily and very safely,” he added.

During his meeting with the king in the Oval Office, Trump reiterated his proposal, claiming that his plan will “bring peace” to the region.

“We’re going to take it. We’re going to hold it. We’re going to cherish it. We’re going to get it going eventually, where a lot of jobs are going to be created for the people in the Middle East,” Trump stated.

In remarks at the Jordanian House of Representatives on Wednesday, Prime Minister Jafar Hassan said the king reiterated to the US administration the importance of adopting an Arab plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, ensuring that its residents are not forcibly displaced.

Hassan reaffirmed Jordan’s rejection of plans to displace Palestinians from their lands, stating that the king made it clear that Jordan will not act unilaterally on issues concerning the future of Palestine and the region.

“Jordan's position is clear and steadfast regarding displacement: no resettlement, no displacement, and no solutions at Jordan's expense,” Hassan emphasized.

Egypt too reaffirmed on Tuesday its rejection of any plans involving the relocation of Palestinian people inhibiting Gaza.

Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that it plans to present a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, ensuring that the Palestinian people remain on their land in accordance with their legitimate and legal rights.

Egyptian sources on Tuesday emphasized that Egypt rejects any proposal to allocate land for Gaza residents or displace Palestinians from their lands and resettle them elsewhere.

Egypt emphasized that any solutions to the crisis must ensure that the residents of the Gaza Strip remain on their land, expressing “displeasure” with recent statements made by Israeli and American officials regarding the Palestinian cause.
